Jamie Moyer

I am a Jamie Moyer fan. Who’s Jamie Moyer? Jamie Moyer is a forty-nine year old Major League ball player who just made the Colorado Rockies starting rotation. He was a rookie wayyyyyy back in 1986 and as far as I know he’s the last player to have played in that decade. Ken Griffey Jr. was the next to last but he only played in 1989 and is seven years younger than Moyer. Moyer’s first start was against Steve Carlton who’s been in the Hall of Fame for eighteen years. Almost half of today’s players weren’t even born when he began. It’s amazing that he’s lasted for so long.  Never a hard thrower, he’s lucky to hit 80 on the radar gun. That just tells you that it’s not all about how hard you can throw but how you can pitch. The key to pitching is changing speeds to alter the batter’s timing. Moyer does that better than most everyone. So here’s hoping that he stays healthy and continues to pitch. Oh another reason I’m a Jamie Moyer fan? He pitched for the Cardinals wayyyy back in 1991.
