St. Louis Cardinals Game 49

This game was sort of hyped. Shelby Miller vs Clayton Kershaw.  Two big Texas flame throwers going at it. Both had sub 2.00 era’s. Neither performed at their best. After Kershaw was staked to a two run lead, many felt this game was over. Pete Kozma didn’t know who Kershaw was and didn’t care. He came up with the bases loaded and delivered a base clearing double to give the Cards the lead. Kozma ended up with his first four hit game that included three doubles and was involved with all five of the Cards runs. His batting average jumped 18 points after his performance. Seth Maness received his fourth win after pitching an inning and Trevor Rosenthal pitched 1 2/3 inning striking out two with the bases loaded in the seventh. Edward Mujica pitched a perfect ninth for his 14 save. Team effort today and it was probably their best played game of the year. Their West Coast trip ended up 4-2 and they still have the best record in baseball by a half game. As I’ve said before, this could be a special year.

Next up is four games against Kansas City. Adam Wainwright vs James Shields. Another good match up.
