The Cards fried the fish to the tune of a 13-7 victory. It wasn’t easy and it wasn’t pretty. The Cards reeled off five runs in the first only to see Lance Lynn give up four. After Carlos Beltran homered in the second, the marlins tied it up with a two-run blast from Giancarlo Stanton. David Freese homered to give the Cards a 7-6 lead From there on out the Marlins couldn’t keep up. Lance went five innings. He struggled with his control, his delivery, and his command, but he still picked up hi ninth win. He also picked up a two out, two run single in the top of the fifth. It enabled him to get the win. There was some controversy about him hitting with the bases loaded and two outs but eh rewarded Mike Matheny’s faith in him. Beltran added a solo shot in the ninth for his second multi-homer game of the year. Seth maness, Randy Choate, Trevor Rosenthal, and Keith Butler pitched shutout ball out of the bullpen.
Though the offense picked up Lynn, it was disheartening to see him struggle. That’s two in a row that thats happened. It was also good to see both Cincinnati and Pittsburgh lose. Nest up, Tyler Lyons tries to reward Matheny’s faith in him as the Cards hope to keep their series win streak alive.
