The Cardinals needed a big game from Jake Westbrook and they got it. He gave up two hits in seven innings and recorded fifteen ground ball outs. The only run he allowed was unearned as he lowered his era to 1.82. Trevor Rosenthatl pitched a scoreless eighth and Chief Mujica pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his 21st save of the year. The big hit though was the two-run homer by Yadier Molina that gave the Cards a 3-1 lead. They tacked on another for a final score of 4-1.
A good start was needed. The last five starts for the Cards hadn’t been real good. The bullpen has been mostly lights out lately, due to Rosenthal and Mujica. They still seemed a bit flat while hitting though Molina and Carlos Beltran are still swinging big sticks.
Lance Lynn goes after his ninth win as he matches up against Scott Feldman of the Cubs.
