Ah, yes, the sounds of summer have started up yet again down in Jupiter, Florida. Spring Training has started and before you know it, the exhibition games will be here. And after that, the regular season. After several months of a waffling winter, it’s great to hear consistent baseball news. Yahoo sports just recently did a spread in which the wrote about all 32 teams going from worst to the best. And guess who they proclaimed to be the best? You guessed it, the St. Louis Cardinals. It surprised me because I was pretty sure they would name the Dodgers. Though I suspect they’re hoping to jinx them. The last two teams that were named number one had dismal years. I don’t see that happening this year. This is a very good team and they’re poised to resume their assault on the rest of the league. A couple of things different was the signing of Jhonny Peralta to take over at short and the trade of David Freese to the Angels for Pete Bourgous. (I have no idea if I spelled that name right!) Matt Carpenter returns to his natural position of third base with Kolten Wong taking over at second. Allen Craig takes over in right for the departed Carlos Beltran as Matt Adams assumes first base. With the returns of pitchers Jaime Garcia and Jason Motte, the pitching should be just as good if not better. The excitement is here and the season looks to be a good one. Bring on the regular season already!
