St. Louis Cardinals Game 56

Tyler Lyons started for the Cards and was effective for the most part, though he did get his first loss. Chad Gaudin of the Giants was a bit better as the Cards could muster only four hits in six innings off of him. Luckily, one was a two run blast from David Freese that tied the game up at two. Earlier the game was marred by the abrupt tossing of Yadier Molina after he slammed his helmet in disgust at being robbed of a hit. As he turned around to head back to the dugout he was tossed. The umps have been bad this year. And in no way should Molina have been tossed. Another case of an umpire trying to be center of the attention. It changed the course of the game. Both Cardinal losses the last week have stemmed from bad umpiring decisions. Of course, Randy Choate didn’t do his job and let two inherited runs score in the seventh. The Cards couldn’t pull it off today. Had they and they would have been 3 1/2 games up on both Pittsburgh and Cincinnati.

Next up, Arizona comes to town. Lance Lynn goes up against Trevor Cahill.
